The HBP’s core team packed up our gear and headed to Philadelphia, PA for a day of nail spa fun. Reviewing green businesses is the best part of my job here at The Healthy Beauty Project! And Tierra Mia Organic Nail Spa is the real deal. From their non-toxic, water-based nail colors to their no VOC, clay-based wall paints. The owners, Justin Mitchell and Karina Restrepo know their business well. They put in years of research on the unhealthy environments of  nail spas and decided to do theirs differently.

Justin’s involvement with the nail industry came when he smelled Karina’s (his fiance) nail polish. Most of us ladies have heard our guys complain about the fumes from our polish as we’re applying it, but few guys are compelled to change the entire industry!

Justin combined his passion for revamping the industry with Karina’s experience in nail care and the two of them set about opening the country’s first organic nail spa. But this spa isn’t just healthy, it’s gorgeous (see video). And their nail colors are just as vibrant and long lasting as the toxic versions without the smell. The scrumptious spa recipes (made with fresh coconuts and other fruit purees) that Karina brings from her native Columbia will make you swoon, but won’t make you sick. Everything is fresh and nothing contains parabens, hormone-disrupting chemicals or other health disasters found in most mainstream spa brands.
