If deodorant stones haven’t been on your beauty radar when shopping for the best and safest way to help prevent body odor, there’s a good chance they will be. Now approved for retail distribution, Verdan’s newly revamped, all natural deodorant spray infused with their patented crystallized technology, is going to be a big hit.

Verdan coins their latest project as “the consumer’s upscale natural deodorant of choice”, and with the growing trend leaning towards safer, yet effective natural personal care products, the company is certainly catering to the needs of a growing market.

The spray goes on clear, leaves little residue on clothing and is just as effective in absorbing body orders as many of the leading brands. It’s also free of parabens, aluminum chlorohydrate and synthetic fragrances.

@YogaMom–sorry I just missed your comment. Actually, the full name of potassium alum is "potassium aluminum sulfate." (Potassium is also considered to be a metal). It isn't the same type of synthetic aluminum compounds that you'd find in an anti-perspirants, but it is aluminum nevertheless. If you personally avoid aluminum in your life, I would avoid crystal deodorants. A lot of people avoid aluminum cookware for its possibility to leach in to foods. When you cook an acid in an aluminum pan, you get trace amounts of aluminum in your food. This is the same form of aluminum you find in "the crystals," whether or not it's produced synthetically or naturally.

It's a cool new product. I am looking forward to trying it out. And in response to the last comment, natural crystal deodorants are made of potassium alum, which is a mineral salt, and does not contain aluminum which is a metal.

    Stephanie,

This particular brand is the leading crystal deodorant brand and has the Ecocert Certification

They have answered this argument about aluminum in the past with this response:

Verdan maintains that its products have never contained any chemicals or synthetics, he asserts that “competitors exist who synthetically manufacture potassium alum and ammonium alum” as an alternative to the naturally occurring mineral potassium alum, known as Kalunite.

Chemically synthesized versions are produced by mixing aluminium hydroxide (ATH) with potassium or ammonium sulphate in acid. After additional chemical reactions and mixtures, the final product is either synthetic potassium alum or ammonium alum powder, according to Verdan.

“The synthetic versions, most of which claim to be natural, are in fact not, and contain elements of aluminum hydroxide which is used during the synthesis process to make the synthetic version appear natural,” added Verdan.

A reduced manufacturing cost is the main benefit of synthetic potassium alum production as it excludes the expensive extraction of the natural mineral from the earth.

“This has led to the significant increase in use of synthetic potassium alum by natural deodorant formulators” said Verdan.

Conversely, Verdan’s ‘strict production standards’ means that its “potassium alum will always remain 100 per cent natural and provide minerals in their naturally occurring state.”

We have also contacted the brand directly to see if they have someone who has the time to directly respond to your comment.

Unfortunately, crystal stones and sprays have become wildly popular. I say unfortunately because they contain high amounts of aluminum in a form that is likely MORE absorbable than those found in conventional anti-perspirants!
