Well, here it is. The weekend our team has been working towards for the past year. Even before we introduced The Healthy Beauty Project to the world, we knew we wanted to create products that would help women shop for healthier beauty and personal care items. But how? We thought of several different avenues, from ebooks to a video channel on Vimeo to speaking engagements.
After tossing around plenty of (good and not so good) ideas, we finally came up with a great idea! We’d create a phone app. Initially, the thought was to do an app filled with brands we’d screened and trusted. But as one of our advisers pointed out, small brands often reformulate. Big corporations buy up small healthy brands and, you guessed it, reformulate.
So, the next step was to create something more “generic”, if you will. Something that a woman could use on the go, no matter where she was shopping – from Walmart to Whole Foods. The obvious answer: A phone app filled with the most common cosmetics ingredients and their related health concerns!
As much as I ( the fearless leader here) loved the collective energy that came up with such a grand idea, I felt overwhelmed with the notion. Where to start? Who to trust as advisers and how to build such a database. It was daunting to say the least.
But here we are, nearly a year later sending out invites to our Facebook fans to test drive this new beauty. Our tech and media guru says to let you know, it’s still in Beta stage, so he knows we’ll have some bugs to fix. But we’re closing our eyes and leaping.
Introducing Healthy Beauty Spy.
Oh. There’s more. One of our team members thought a phone app wasn’t a big enough task. She also wanted to offer a social network where women could chat with each other (and non-toxic/natural/organic beauty brand formulators) about allergies, safe ingredients, green baby stuff, healthy makeup, beauty recipes, etc.
Sort of a pink (and green) Facebook.
So, Healthy Beauty Social was born.
If you’d like a chance to check out the app (for free instead of $2.99) and the social network before the buzz builds, click the “like” button under the post about this on our Facebook page between Friday, April 8 and Sunday, April 10 (at 8 PM). We’ll choose 25 of you.
Thanks so much for your support of The Healthy Beauty Project. We love sharing info (and silliness, at times) with each of you.
The app will be available for sale after April 17th. We’ll keep you posted.

Thanks you, Kandace and Erin. We have beauty enthusiasts checking it out for bugs and such. We'll be ready for prime time in a week or so.
Way to go Todra and team. I'm looking forward to seeing your new app.
I'm really excited about this app. Was in Sephora yesterday reading the ingredients of an eye shadow and couldn't remember much of what I should avoid…
