I am always intrigued by how we perceive “beauty”. And how we package it. No one says curly hair is the ugly stepchild of straight hair, but almost every product ad, fashion shoot and TV commercial shoves the straight hair message down our throats.
And skin whiteners make sure we can lighten the burden of darker skin tones.
Here’s another less-than-subtle notion about beauty – blue eyes are more desirable than brown. And although we sometimes give a nod to chocolate peepers with songs like, “Brown-eyed Girl”, most of the hoopla surrounds blue.
Well, for all of us less fortunate brown-eyed souls, help is on the way. A new technology developed by Greg Homer, PhD of Stromer Medical Corporation in Laguna Beach, CA finds the blue that is said to be in everyone’s eyes (just hiding underneath the muddy brown) and brings it to the surface.
A laser is fired straight into the cornea of the eye breaking up the brown pigment that is then “absorbed” by the body. The process takes less than a minute.
For those looking for an instant dose of blue, please note: Eyes don’t change hue right away. It’s a process that takes place over two weeks. But once eye color is changed, it’s permanent.
Also understand that this is not available state-side yet. And probably won’t be for about three years. Europe can expect it within the next eighteen months.
Dr. Homer claims he’s already gotten nearly 3,000 requests for the procedure. Obviously there are a lot of disgruntled browns out there.
I’m really hoping I don’t see a clan of freakishly blue-eyed people popping up in 2014. These types of things rarely look like nature did it. And women of color, please sit this one out.
Would you turn your brown eyes blue?

My eyes change color CONSTANTLY, never is it one shade, they will go to brown to blue to green to gray, i want my Dads eye color, Blue.
Yes my eye colors change naturally, not that im happy about it.
if i had $5,000.oo id go an get my eye color changed today!
Wow! I would not trade my brown eyes but I am really surprised that people would want a permanent colour change! I can understand switching contacts for fun but to permanently change the colour and risk your vision (because laser surgery in general can cause vision loss)….why?
Heglae, I agree with you on this one. And I wonder, as some doctors have, how safe is this for the long haul. Will it weaken eye sight? Will it cause blindness? I’d never take such chances on a new procedure just to change a physical attribute.
this is so …shallow…lol
I mean, blue eyes are pretty, but people would really pay a lot of money for such vanity? Sometimes I’m scary about humanity.
Sorry, Dr. Homer, but I think you should study to find solutions for blindness diseases or more useful stuff than a permanent blue eyes…
